The Literature Club in collaboration with the English Department delved into the depths of literature via an exposure trip to the Literature Festival & Book Fair organised by The White Owl at Niathu Resort.
The festival was divided into sessions and each sessions having different penalists at different venues within the Nitahu Resort i.e., The Plaza, Book Lounge and Town Hall. The Festival kicked off with an Inaugural speech by our honorable Chief Minister of Nagaland Neiphiu Rio in the Inaugural Ceremony.
The first session titled “Fiction Unbound” began at 10:54 AM, an insightful conversation on the world of an author was brought to us by Mamang Dai and Jahnavi Barua with Avinuo Kire in which the introduction of “ The Black Hills” by Mamang Dai was introduced to us and also a short story from Jahnavi Barua which set the audience on the right mindset for the other sessions. The Second session at the Plaza was “Beyond the Margins” by Yogesh Maitreya,
Lehknath Chhetri and Anurag Basnet with Theyiesinuo Keditsu.
The first session at the Town Hall, Creative writing for Children with Jane De Souza was held at 12:15 PM, the session began with introduction from the author and some students as their favourite food, creative writing and the structure of writing creatively were explained along with activities involving the audience keeping everyone engaged in an active session, the author concluded with encouraging the future writers to “Write a story you want to read”.
Meanwhile the third session of the Plaza “ The role of literature in political writing” by Shelmi Sankhil, Vikas Kumar and Rohlupuia in conversation with Jim Wungramyao took place.
The sessions took a momentary break till 2:30 pm, light refreshment was provided and the students relived their childhood memories in the children’s park and attended the last session as a college together for day. The fourth session of the Plaza, “ Raising Eco – Warriors “ featuring Nandini Nayar and Rohan Chakravarty in conversation with Meghaa Gupta brought extensive knowledge on the effects that literature has on the environment and Nandini Nayar encouraged everyone to read without discrimination of books as bad books are equally important in teaching us lessons.
After this session, the students gathered and dispursed early from the festival more knowledgeable, more enriched and excited for the second day.
